Your correspondent is in Barcelona for a few days before going to Mallorca for a wedding. Those that know me, know that I am an extremely strong advocate of Aldi. I was in the Aldi at Brookvale the first day that it opened and a sad day was when the Aldi on Manly Wharf shut. So if I’m in foreign land and I see an Aldi – I’m in like Flynn. About 400m from my Hotel is a “Northern Aldi”. I popped in and grabbed a couple of beers and some snacks for a piscina (pool) side drink. Obviously you can zoom in on the receipt – but 5 beers, some reasonable chorizo and some cheese cost €6.26 or $10.17 Aussie.

There is so much that is insane about that pricing. Firstly Aldi in Australia doesn’t allow single can purchases. And even with Aldi’s competitive pricing you are looking at $10 for the small goods alone. And the beers are good. The Schultenbrau is a perfectly acceptable Pils brewed in line with the 1516 beer purity rule.

To say I’m like a pig in sh1t is an understatement. BTW, the logo is different to the Aussie logo, because Australian Aldi is operated by Aldi Süd, whereas Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud compete in Europe.
