Moorebeer Brewing Co – a Port Macquarie gem

A wall of goodness

Happy New Year to Back of the Ferry readers. Your correspondent had an ordinary start to 2021 with a lockdown, sh1tty weather and an all too early return to work. Only fair that I sneak in a quick coast trip during decent weather. The ultimate destination is Iluka, near Yamba. But that’s a long trip and there’s mates to look up in Port Macquarie so here we are.

Good food

I’d visited Moorebeer once before, but was driving and could pay only the fleetest of visits. Tonight I had a driver and time to enjoy a beer or two and a burger. Their premises are big and clean. They’ve also perfected the formula of beers, food truck and solo singer playing a few tunes. The food is very good. Bacon burger – one of the best.

The beers are very solid. Their Poppa series is core, so much so they get their own t-shirt. I ripped through Lil Poppa and was ready to step up to Big Poppa – when the barman advised that they were closed. Devastation. One of life’s pleasures is a Big NEIPA on tap. Luckily there is a big takeaway fridge and they are happy to do singles, which is a welcome approach.

Great beer (not drunk at Port)
