I’m on a flying visit to South Australia – specifically Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula. South Australia is no different the other states and territories of Australia when it comes to craft beer. No surprise really, because the state’s travel motto seems to be “Come here to eat and get pissed”. There is some beautiful scenery in SA, but when the Top Attraction on Trip Advisor for Adelaide is the Adelaide Central Markets – you know this is a place that cares about what it eats and drinks.

You know this is a city that likes craft beer when the Hilton has a NEIPA on tap – but our Friday destination was Little Bang Brewing Co. My well organised travelling partner (and daughter) had the foresight to book a table at their brewery and taproom. Lucky she did – the place was heaving.

And for good reason. The tap selection is extensive. Little Bang is not known for playing it safe. They launched in 2014 with a 10.1% barley wine, which is served to this day and has its own t- shirt. The beer names and labels are always well thought through and the Little Bang vibe is fun. Adelaide has been rocked by the news that the West End brewery at Thebarton is closing. Well, at least you can get East End Draught at Little Bang.
The food is bloody good. Very good chicken wings and these guys can actually make cauliflower nuggets tasty. The space is huge. There’s no attempt to hide the brewing equipment and they are canning a tonne of beer. Takeaway and merch are available. Put Little Bang on your Adelaide list – particularly if you are staying in the CBD. It isn’t far.
