Happy Hour wars in Manly

7 days a week Happy (2) Hour

Drinkers and their hip pockets are the winners in an escalating Happy Hour war between The Bavarian at Manly Wharf and 4 Pines’ original brew pub. The Bavarian’s Happy Hour has been long-standing and originally occurred Monday to Friday and featured a couple of their house beers. The Bavarian has recently upped the ante and has:

– extended the Happy Hour to 7 days a week

– offered free bar snacks with each $5 beer

– made 4 Pines Beer Pale and Draught (Kölsch) available at $5 for 500ml

A great location

Customers are flocking in, despite the fairly ordinary service that is consistently provided. It has gotten to the stage that bar staff are just constantly pouring beers and just handing them out – and not caring whether it is a Pale or a Draught. Also the staff never know who is next in line and there greater staff turnover than the Chelsea manager’s job.

The 4 Pines deal

So you’ve got the situation where you are paying 50% less for a 4 Pines less than 200m from the 4 Pines Brew Pub. 4 Pines have now responded with a Happy Hour of its own. $6 Pints of the core range (ESB, Pale, Draught, Amber at least) and $6 wings. Only Monday to Friday 4 to 6, but that’s a bloody good deal.

Happy hours aren’t limited to these two venues. 33 Degrees is putting on craft beer deals. The Steyne’s doing something. The New Brighton has $6 pints of Carlton Dry and Tooheys and Donny’s 50% off good on Sunday is a ripper of a deal. Don’t you love competition.
