The Manly Bottler on the bend at Pittwater Rd at Queenscliff has always been a dependable place for the odd uniques. Good supporter of Nomad as well.
On the counter I noticed a beer I hadn’t seen. “Yep – it’s brand new. This is the first case”. The 40/20 Beer Co is located at 1/40-42 Pacific Street, which is a 110m metre walk from the Manly Bottler. Steve’s the owner and the brewery operates out of his third bedroom. “So contract brewed, then?”. “Yep.”
Only noticed the Manly colours when I got home. For non-followers of Rugby League a “40/20” kick is one where the attacking team successfully kicks the ball from within their 40 metre line into touch beyond the defending team’s 20 metre line thereby maintaining possession for the next set of 6. Really a beer for NSW and Qld then, who know what a 40/20 is.
Beer is a solid pale that tends to the XPA end of the Pale Ale spectrum. Pours a nice medium gold colour. Good luck 40/20 – go you good thing.
