Back of the Ferry loves a brewery opening. Back of the Ferry also loves AFL. To be able to watch one of the most enjoyable AFL Grand Finals of all time on the first day of a brewery that is within walking distance of home is just about the definition of heaven.
George, Mitch and Dave have been working towards this day for around two years and now Justice Brewing Co is open for business. Congratulations to all concerned and it must been very satisfying to such a great crowd turn up on the day. Justice Brewing’s address is Pittwater Road, but the entrance to the taproom is in Girard Street opposite the Weber BBQ store in the old Mitre 10 site.
There’s plenty crammed into the site. There’s a great outdoor deck, inside seating including a couch, brewing equipment and an office. I can envisage many afternoons on a sunny day sipping beers in the deck.
The Day 1 beer line-up was very solid. One of the founders is a lawyer – hence the name Justice Brewing Co. There’s a strong legal theme throughout the marketing, slogans and beer names. Back of the Ferry is a massive fan of Hefeweizen and our first beer just had to be the Hefe – “Justice for the Hefe”. A fine example of the style and whilst we tried others in the range – we found ourselves having another Hefe at the end of the AFL as we discussed the merits or otherwise of Wharfie Time.

- The Offender Belgian Ale
I’ve also got to say I love the glassware.
The founders are great fellows, and I was particularly grateful to George for giving us a sneak peek before the opening and being so generous with his time. The food options are straight-forward and very good. Importantly the beers are excellent (what we’ve tasted thus far). A session with less football distraction is definitely required to work our way through the rest of the range.
