I don’t get to Redoak as often as I should. A visit to one of Sydney’s pioneering boutique beer cafes (2004) last week reminded me why I should go there more often. The food is good, the service is excellent and the lovingly made beers are much more hit than miss. Like many places around town, Redoak has embraced Oktoberfest and as a brewer they’ve got nuts with four specially made beers for the season.
By taking a more conservative approach than usual ie not everything in a pint, I was able to sample the set. I reckon the consensus from the table was that the German Wheat Beer was a ripper, the Oktoberfest Lager is the absolute winner and the Weizen Doppelbock really needs to be drunk by an open fire with a bowl of muscatel grapes. Redoak’s well worth a visit – anytime. The Oktoberfest Lager makes it even more so.
