Weather was a little bit chilly down around 10C but with the wind coming from the east, it felt far colder, particularly when sitting on boat in the middle of a lake. The prevailing wind in winter is from the north-east (summer from south west) – the leaves are starting to fall, winter is coming. Was not easy fishing but managed 4 rainbows all round 2lb in weight. A couple on nymphs and a hopper did the damage.
On the way home decided to stop off at the Winford Arms on the Bridgewater road, close to Barrow tanks and another pub, the Fox and Goose (for another blog). It has been a little while since my last visit but the decor has not changed and it is a friendly welcoming country pub – not quite all low wood beams, hunting and farming feel of some of the others in the locality but an excellent pub all the same. The beer garden in particular is very good, although did not venture out – but all the kids swings, etc are still there and has as kept mine and my brother kids entertained in the past. The food is not too bad either.
Interestingly I was a little surprised to see a lot of the cask ales were from Brains, the Welsh brewery and sponsors of the Wales Rugby team. Bristol is not far from Wales but still a little surprised. There were the usual lagers, ciders and Bass was also on tap. Went for the Brains SA – which is a bronze/copper colour ale, smooth, easy drinking and apparently one Wales’s favourite beers. My brother thought better of it and went for the Stowfordpress cider.
