I’m a little late to this party, but I finally got to pay a visit to the new Ekim Taproom and brewery deep in the industrial heart of Hornsby.

Ekim was a favourite stop of mine on the way to Wollombi. Loved a middy of something new off the tap and a four pack of a skull-splitting IPA – Bloodshot Red IPA, being a real favourite. The Mt Kuring-Gai site was pretty tight for brewing and drinking space and so the move was made.

They’ve done bloody well. The taproom is on a mezzanine level overlooking all the brewing equipment and windows looking out over North Wahroonga. There’s two big screen TVs as well for the punters. And there was no shortage of them on a Sunday.

Ekim Brewing has always brewed good beers. The aforementioned Bloodshot Red IPA is in my top 20 beers of all time. I gotta say though that the Shield Wall Porter on Nitro is an absolute belter. A velvet smooth alcoholic chocolate milkshake that with an ABV of 6.5% will #knitabeervest™.

They are rotating caterers and today’s Gozleme man was doing a very brisk trade. New beers are launching next weekend. Great to see one of the old stagers of Sydney’s suburban craft beer scene surviving and thriving.
