The photo is schizenhausen, but I’ve found a sensational place to drink on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve previously sung the praises of the Rainbow Beach SLSC and its magnificent views. Queensland Surf Life Saving Club. The Alex Surf Club outlook is very good, but The Rainbow Beach SLSC still has it covered.

Where the Alex Surf Club has Rainbow covered is its beer menu. Sunshine Coast breweries have their taps prominent alongside the usual Macros (Great Northern, Caarrrlton Draught etc). There’s been some hubbub about the proliferation of Japanese rice lagers and coincidentally I happened to get to try Heads of Noosa Japanese and Dark Japanese with a view.

The cellar man at the Alex Surf Club is very, very good at his job. The Heads of Noosa Japanese Lager was absolutely brilliant. So clean, so crisp, so cold. Just perfect. I’m finding more often that lines aren’t clean these days, but this beer was perfect.

The black version of the Japanese Lager was also available and OMG – what a beer. A really, really classic dark lager with the roastiness and toastiness of Hunter Old from the 80s.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Friendly staff, awesome view and great beers.
