Shopping centre drinking in Bali – Breman Brewery

Shopping centre drinking is a very niche category. I discovered a brewery in the second largest shopping mall in the US and enjoyed some craft beer in an Outlet Mall in Adelaide. I wasn’t expecting to find a boat serving craft beer in a shopping centre in Nusa Dua.

I am back in Bali on unfinished business. Whilst I like walking when on holiday, the heat in Bali at this time of year is unrelenting and I paid a visit to the Bali Collection to do some shopping. All around the complex were signs for Breman Brewery. Some googling reveals that Breman Brewery is a brewery and restaurant in Gainyar, which is a town to the north east of Denpasar. Fortuitously, Breman Brewery has decided to establish an unlikely venue in the Bali Collection.

The Breman Brewery Beer Garden is outside the Wagon Coffee Shop, which is close to the Western Gate of Bali Collection. The Beer Garden is centred around a boat on which is housed a couple of taps and a large bar fridge. Two beers are served – a Helles Lager, called Terang and a Vienna Lager called Gelap. The barman is extremely casual and disappears from time to time to vape with his buddy from the nearby coffee shop. No dramas, though. He can pull a beer.

Breman Brewery encourages punters to try both beers to determine which team they are on. Team Terang or Team Gelap. Well, I’m on Team Gelap. This is a lovely beer, with plenty of toffee maltiness. Untappd reveals that they’ve brewed eight beers since they launched in 2020. The photos of the Brew Pub show a number of taps. I don’t have time on this visit to get to Gainyar, but the nearby Nyoman’s Beer Garden was serving Breman’s Balinese Marzen. Another fine malt-bomb.

So if you are looking for a quirky place to have a beer – the Breman Beer Garden at the Bali Collection is the go. Nyoman’s Beer Garden is also worth a look, particularly if you want to watch some cricket.
