From Spooning Goats to Mixtape Brewing and Bar

SG in Mixtape

Hands down, one of my favourite small bars of all time anywhere in the world, was Spooning Goats. I drank there for the first time almost 10 years ago. Jason’s a good fella and I went back many times. His ability to have an Untappd unique with only 4 taps always impressed.

Well Spooning Goats was closed due to the landlords (though you can still see the site in York St), Jason learnt how to brew and he’s gone next level with his new venture – Mixtape Brewing & Bar.

Jason crammed plenty of character into Spooning Goats. No cramming required here. What a space even with the Brewing Equipment there’s so much room. He’s also got a great kitchen serving up some traditional pub stuff (pizza) and some unique snacks (kimchi dumplings).

It was good fun catching up with Jason and trying his first offering – a very tasty little IPA (Testing Testing 1). 16 taps are on offer so I can imagine that grabbing a unique will be relatively easy. No surprises that the list is eclectic.

As if you didn’t need another reason to visit Marrickville. Long may Mixtape play, and terrific work, Jason. See you again soon.
