I don’t get many opportunities to spend such unfettered time with #78 and #105 and so after giving Deeds Brewing a good shake, we decided to head south. #105 happens to live in a part of Melbourne that has seen a good number of breweries open and the two most local to him are in the suburb of Mordialloc.

We phoned ahead to make sure that we’d get in and Braeside Brewing said – “No problems if we arrived before 5pm”. Mordialloc is not exactly close to Glen Iris, but our Uber driver got the picture and we made it with 10 minutes to spare. What a friendly place. Despite 80 people arriving imminently, the owner took the time to have a chat as we gulped down a couple of his finest. Helps that #105 is a regular. And I’m not kidding about finest. The Catcher in the Rye I think was BotD. Very limited edition and has been snapped anyone who has tried it. The Red IPA was a belter ad well that just grew on you with every sip. Such a friendly place with a large pizza oven and indoor and outdoor spaces. Strong merch game and I love the fact they’ve trademarked “Made in Mordi”. Will give it a bigger shake next time.

I’ve always been a big fan of Wolf of the Willows. 5 minutes away from Braeside. Always wondered about the name, and that question was answered by looking up at the ceiling. Very deep, very Latin and very hoppy.

The Woodsman – Amber Ale is one of their best, but it has been awhile since I’ve had it on tap. Just wonderful. #78 went back for seconds. The tap room set up is excellent. Good indoor and outdoor spaces and a pretty sizeable playroom for the kids. Asian fusion food available on site – so they really have everything covered.

The 16 taps serve up a blend of their well known core range (Homage IPA, Jonny Smoked Porter, XPA and the aforementioned Woodsman) along with some adventurous beers including “Merry Smores Mas” and Disco of the Dead. Another strong merch game and good takeaway selection.
Mordi Strong indeed.
