BotF was in Melbourne again for a flying visit, but found some time to venture into Flinders Lane – home to some very funky bars. Unfortunately, BotF’s camera is not particularly good and wasn’t able to capture all the bars into which we ventured, but that will be remedied.
On the night, we covered the Bull & Bear, Swine 55, Gin Palace, James Squires and an Irish Bar whose name escapes me. The star of the night however was the Randy Dragon.
This bar is situated at 313 Flinders Lane, in between Queen and Elizabeth Streets. We were attracted by the promise of “Rub-a-Dub Everything in the tub $5”. You travel down a gaudily lit flight of stairs and enter one of most well furnished bars I’ve been in. Chesterfields, Zebra Pool Tables, Neon lit bars and horned chandaliers make the Randy Dragon a great looking place. The tub is a vintage old claw foot bar with Crownies and Stellas in ice for $5.
BotF will spend longer in this place next time.
