Today’s Beer Porn comes from a spot, Little Manly Beach, which is within the electorate of the would-be 28th Prime Minister. Fortunately he wasn’t there. In the background of the first photo, you can see in the top right corner the top of the Dunny Roll apartments. The base of these apartments were famously the temporary resting place for a Manly Ferry, when the skipper was “distracted” and the boat sailed itself aground.
As the subject of the Beer Porn, you are looking at a complex beer from a subsidiary brewer of Little Creatures. White Rabbit White Ale is brewed in Healesville, Victoria at the White Rabbit Brewery. Judging by the photos on the website, this would be a brewery well worth visiting. A fair amount of coin has been dropped on the joint. The website goes on to explain that the fermentation process is an “open” one – which enables the yeast to go wild and create a different taste to normal. I can’t tell whether they’ve actually added coriander or orange peel or whether they reckon the beer picks up those “notes” but honey has definitely been involved. Whatever – there’s plenty going on in this beer. It pours very light in colour, with a cloudy appearance. The first sip is not the most pleasant one, but it improves the longer you get into it.
A visit to this brewery is called for.
