2 Dutch on the BotF, which one will turn up at the Semi-Final

Another stray shipping container has hit the Australian shores and our sharp eyed mates at the Circular Quay bottlo have been quick to pick out yet another beer bargain. This has hit new lows in terms of price. Martens Pils at $9.99 a 6 pack, worked out at $1.83 per 330ml unit. That has been topped by a 4 pack of “Holland Import Pilsener Bier” for $6.99 ($1.75 per 330ml unit).

Given the Dutch are playing in a semi-final tonight (tomorrow morning), I contemplated their chances over two Dutch beers – Heineken and the aforementioned Holland Bier on the journey home on the BotF. I am seriously hoping the clog wearers play with a quality commensurate with the former beer not the latter – a little more like Robben and less like Melchiot.

BotF has a soft spot for the Dutch, who really should have won the 1974 World Cup and have had not been rewarded with the trophies (other than 1988 Euro) that a country that has given the world Cruyff, Rep, Neeskens, Rijkaard, Van Basten, Koemann, Bergkamp, Muhren (that’s for you Punchy) and my personal favourite (as a player not a coach) Gullit.

I think the world will be cheering for the Dutch, after the perfectly legal but morally bankrupt way the Uruguayans knocked out the Ghanians, but also because they are due. This team is ok and hasn’t hit full gear. Hopefully they put on a virtuoso display and can be talked about in the same sentence, let alone the same blog as the ’74 and ’88 teams. (the ’78 was good, but the Argies were laydown miseres that year)
