BotF was down in Chinatown picking up a visa for a quick visit to Beijing and an Asian bottlo was open. I spotted one beer that I hadn’t tried before – Max– which, as it turns out, is Korean. Very amusing website with a video clip on the homepage, which has no English translation. I did pick up the word “Einstein” and a snippet of “Centrefold” by the J Geils Band as a bunch of very happy Koreans yell out “MAX!”. I’ll try and provide a translation in due course.
The labelling indicates that Max Beer is a “Delicious Idea”.
Max Beer is a brand manufactured by the Hite brewery in Seoul, South Korea. Talk about market dominance – Hite has over 50% of the Korean beer market. I was therefore expecting the absolute worst with this beer – think about how bland the mainstream stuff around the world is. Well, this wasn’t too bad. First taste is pretty sharp (good sharp), but it dies away pretty quick. Performs well for the first bottle, but tails away pretty quick. Still you could do worse.
