Dodging the yachts & Ginger Beer

The wind was up and the yachts were out in force on the harbour last night, which always makes for a interesting voyage home. The ferry master gets to blow his horn repeatedly and oft as the yachties give their passengers a thrill by playing chicken with the ferry. Magic conditions made for some magic sights on the harbour.

There was also some controversy about the choice of beverage for the journey home. A Stones Ginger Beer emerged from the brown paper bag – and there was considerable raising of eyebrows from one BotF founding member. It was argued that the Stones was a) brewed b) a beer c) alcoholic and therefore should qualify. Occasional BotFer – Josh sampled the Stones and was effusive in his praise. Having been a fan of ginger many years, I found the Stones to be a great drop. Would have liked it colder – but that is always a problem at the Circular Quay bottlo.

Lastly, the BotF betting sydicate lashed out with an all out bet on the first 7 games of the Super 14. Discussion turned to the topic of George Smith’s retirement. It is typical of the man that he done this so calmly, when he could stayed on for eons. In my view he should be persuaded to have one more run with the Wallabies to enable the fans to pay homage. He was the best player of the 2000’s and deserves a fine send-off.
