This BotF correspondent’s christmas present was The Australian Beer Companion – a guide to Australia’s top microbreweries. One brewery featured is Murray’s Craft Brewing, which is near nowhere, but sort of close to Bowraville. The book mentions that the owner has bought premises in Port Stephens but the book was published before the Port Stephens premises were opened.
Now BotF was at a bar in Manly and ordered a Whale Ale and was pleasantly surprised to find out that Whale Ale was the first offering from Murray’s at Port Stephens. Given that BotF will be in Port next week, it is wonderful to report that Whale Ale is a fine drop. It has a distinct taste with a touch of the IPAs about it.
Great label which should be on a t-shirt. BotF looks forward to reporting from Port on other Murray drops.

Wouldn’t bother trying their other beers. I think they’re crap. You mentioned also they are now in Port Stephens which is correct, but they don’t seem to know where they are. Their advertising says “Brewed in the Hunter”. Bob’s Farm is in Port Stephens, not the Hunter! And from what I’ve heard don’t seem very welcome in Port Stephens because it seems they don’t support other local Port Stephens businesses.
