My daughter has moved to Orange to commence her career as a doctor. She loves the bush and has had stints as a nurse and a medical student in places like Ballarat, Dubbo, Deniliquin and Walgett to name a few.

As if she wasn’t busy enough, she joined the cast of the Orange Musical Society’s performance of Grease. So I trundled out to spend a couple of nights in Orange to watch her and enjoy some the city’s fine establishments.

At the top of my list was Badlands Brewery. This stalwart of NSW regional breweries recently celebrated its 15th birthday. In this day and age of craft breweries that is to be applauded with great gusto.

They were celebrating Oktoberfest the night after I visited, but unfortunately that clashed with the night for which I’d booked a ticket to see Grease. Ah well, she’s in Orange for another year at least.

Badlands is a great space, and the gleaming tanks look fabulous. I’ve had a few Badlands beers over the years, but there were a few new varieties to try. The Acronym Abuse NEIPA was a standout, but everything was damned fine.
And how was Grease? Plenty of fun. The crowd was raucous and most patrons brought at least two beers or cruisers with them to watch the performance (before and after interval!). My kind of theatre going experience. Looking forward to returning.
