Chalky’s – go big or go home

What a bloody sensational job the team at Bucketty’s has done in creating the newest and for mine the best venue in Brookvale. Chalky’s opened at the end of April and each time I’ve visited it has been doing very well.

The hardest decision to make when you arrive is what to.

  • Watch sport on the big screens or at the bar
  • Do Karaoke
  • Play pool
  • Have a cocktail in the separate Speakeasy
  • Have a Northern Beaches beer
  • Have a feed

They’ve really gone all out to cater for everyone. An indoor adult fun park.

Back of the Ferry is first and foremost a beer blog. I really love the way that Chalky’s has gone of its way to support Northern Beaches independent brewers to the exclusion of any owned by Kirin or Asahi (Lion or CUB). There were seven guest taps on when I visited. I am a sucker for Quaker’s Hat Red IPA, so that got a workout. Half Pace from Warriewood, Broken Bay, 7th Day were also in the line-up. Bravo!

The television screens are huuuge. And they can show more than one sport in different places. There’s a reasonable television behind the bar and I enjoyed belly to the bar drinking. I haven’t enjoyed watching the Swans last two games there, but the beers dull the pain and the chicken tenders are superb.

I’m not much of a cocktail drinker (actually not at all), but in the interests of research I had a vesper (I think). My wing person on the first visit enjoyed her cocktail and the ambience is superb.

There’s no doubt the stars of Chalky’s are the pool tables. They can be rented by the hour and you have to be onsite to book one. They were very popular every time I’ve visited. I’ll have a crack next time.
