For over 10 years, Nomad Brewing Co has been a part of the Brookvale brewing scene. They had some halcyon days and it was the go-to place for the Curly Crèche on a Sunday arvo. Unfortunately the last few years have been disappointing as the former owners looked to sell and employed a succession of Sough American bar staff that really couldn’t give a rat’s arse about customers or beer.

In some really good news for the Brookie Trail, Nomad is back. A new owner has taken over and is really shaking things up. A new line-up of core beers has been created and the fridges out the back have emptied of the weird and wonderfuls from US breweries.

When Nomad started in 2014, the core line-up was Sideways Pale, Jet Lag IPA and Long Trip Saison. The Jet Lag IPA took many forms over the years, and for a long time it was the go-to for many in the Crèche. Now the line-up contains Queensie Lager, Hop Symphony Ale and Monsoon IPA and there’s a new simple livery. It remains to be seen whether beers like the Powder Day stout series or Rosie’s Raspberry survive.

The changes must be extraordinarily recent as illiards and I were the first to check-in the three new core beers on Untappd. And the signs are promising. The Monsoon IPA was a belter. Nomad had ostracised itself from the other members of the Brookie Trail and its customers. It is good to see them back.
