Vale Newstead Brewing – where will I drink at Brisbane Airport

Sad news yesterday from Crafty Pint with the sudden announcement of the permanent closure of Newstead Brewing. The end has been swift. No dancing with administrators, restructuring debt etc etc. They’re done. Even in Google, Newstead Brewing is permanently closed. The resilience of Newstead’s owners is awe inspiring, and Crafty’s article explains just how tough these guys have been doing it. They deserve every ounce of sympathy, kudos and respect for trying to come out the other side of the 2022 floods, Covid, the cost of living crisis etc etc

They really made their on the Brisbane beer scene. According to Untappd they made 276 unique beers. Newstead’s Liquid Ambar – a red ale was spectacular. I visited their OG Doggett Street location on numerous occasions with Tony from Toowoomba and loved the suburban drinking feel there. That closed in 2023, but I thought they were just moving things around, because they had launched their wonderful bar at Brisbane Airport.

Newstead OG

The airport bar was damned fine and was always good for a few uniques on a Brisbane trip. This is a tough one for all craft beer drinkers in Australia.

Post updated to include this link from the owners. Heartbreaking.
