Warriewood wanderings – Surfboat Brewing and Half-Pace Brewing Company

After a big week, it can be a struggle to venture outside one’s postcode or local environment, particularly when your local environment is packed with sensational options. Having discovered that Warriewood had not one, but two breweries, Illiards and I decided to brave the B1 and venture over two lagoons to the wilds of Warriewood and checkout Surfboat Brewing and Half-Pace Brewing Co

We were aided and abetted in our cause by Member #10 who picked us up from the last B1 stop. Surfboat Brewing is almost a 2km walk from Pittwater Road. The first thing you notice about Surfboat Brewing is their surfboat. It is decked out in the blue and gold livery of the Surfboat Brewing logo.

They’ve got plenty of space both inside and outside. We enjoyed our tasting paddles outside and were able to check out the brewing space as well. With 12 taps on the go, they need the capacity. Great to see a brewery doing a Hefe, and Surfboat’s Hazy Hefe is a very pleasant. The Hard To Porter is a beautiful roasty dark beer.

Just around the corner from Surfboat Brewing is the Hang 10 Distillery, which is also home to Half-Pace Brewing Co. They’ve created a lovely space, which has a cruisey vibe created by surf videos and music. There’s indoor and outdoor seating and punter’s came in in a steady stream.

There’s no doubt the hero of the place are the spirits and cocktails, but for beer heads there’s some very good beers. The distillery and brewery have only been going since May 2024, but they have done a great job. They produce two staple beers – a lovely Laidback Lager and a solid Hazy Pale Ale.

The stand-out beer of the afternoon was a beautiful Double Oat Cream IPA. A magic looking beer and the smoothest mouth feel. The 7.7% ABV was not particularly noticeable and really shows off the brewer’s chops.
