My last craft beer experience in Taipei was at 23 Public. Taipei starts late and 23 Public is one of the few venues that opens early. Absolutely fabulous. My bartender was Andy, a Canadian who has lived in Taipei for 20 years. He explained some of the magnificent artwork that accompanied two of 23 Public beers.

There are two dominant political parties in Taiwan. The GMD and the DPP. They have very distinctive colours and logos. The GMD use the Kuomanting Flag (White star with 12 triangles on a blue backround). The DPP use a green map of Taiwan in a rainbow circle..

23 Public has adapted both logos magnificently into two beers. The GMD beer is a passion fruit sour. The DPP is a cucumber sour. I’m apolitical when it comes to Taiwanese politics, but I’d buy either t-shirt (of the beer appropriation) if they were available.

23 Public is a must visit if you make it to Taipei. It is in a cool part of town and the beers are bloody good.
