Pumpkin Beer with a cinnamon ring

There is a first time for everything in this life. I am back in the great city of New York. Fortuitously, my hotel is close to Beer Authority – an average sports bar opposite the Port Authority bus station. It is late Saturday night and unranked Kentucky are trying to upset number 1 ranked Georgia. 40 taps which mix up local brewers with the mainstream.

Labor day has passed so now America’s attention turns to all things Pumpkin. Even though Halloween doesn’t happen until 31 October, the shops will be full of orange paraphernalia and lollies that will keep dentists employed for another year. Many brewers also release their annual pumpkin/yam ale. I don’t mind the style to be honest, but I’ve never had it served with a cinnamon ring frosting the glass. That’s how the 2024 vintage of Pumking from upstate NY brewer – Southern Tier was served.

The beer was pleasant – and the cinnamon ring wasn’t awful, but for mine a Oncer™. Southern Tier make a variety of Pumking pumpkin beers. It may not be my last. Oh and whilst Georgia made a meal of it, they prevailed by a point over the gallant Kentucky.
