In a tumultuous week for the craft beer community it is great to see events like Pint of Origin continuing to turn up year after year. As a Sydneysider, my participation depends on fortuitous visits to Melbourne.

Pint of Origin is a testament to the persistence, resilience and loyalty to the craft beer cause of Crafty Pint, who created the concept of Pint of Origin in 2012 as a part of Good Beer Week – another great Melbourne craft beer event. Crafty now stands head and shoulders above all other beer blogs/sites/writers for staying the course and supporting craft beer in Australia. We hat tip our slightly younger fellow craft beer site for unstinting dedication to the cause.

Pint of Origin starts today, and fortuitously I am in Melbourne and was able to squeeze in a visit to one of the 21 participating venues. Whitehart Bar is one my favourite Melbourne CBD laneway haunts. I’m probably not in their normal demographic. Let’s just say they love a doof doof DJ event, and that’s not me, but I love a beer there early in the evening.

Whitehart are showcasing different Brisbane brewers and one the best from north of the Tweed took over the taps. Range Brewing is an awesome brewer – and pumps out great IPAs and Stouts and the occasional pale ales. The range is fabulous across the 10 taps. Get amongst it. For Melbournians , this is a great opportunity to try fabulous beers from far-flung Australian and overseas brewers.

For the record, Hard Maybe (not sure to what the name is referring) is an epic beer. The sort of beer Range Brewing smash out of the park. I love the 150ml tasting size. Just perfect.
