Broken Bay Brewing Co – Welcome to Brookvale

How exciting! The Brookvale Brewery Crawl has a new Eastern extremity with the opening of Broken Bay Brewing Co at 218 Harbord Rd, Brookvale. By my reckoning Broken Bay Brewing Co becomes the seventh brewery in Brookvale to brew on its own premises after 4 Pines, Nomads, Dad & Dave’s, 7th Day, Bucketty’s and Freshwater Brewing. Chubb’s will soon make it eight when they hook up their own equipment in their Winbourne St site. And let’s not forget SurfCraft brewing – Brookvale’s gypsy brewer whose beers are available at the Brookvale Surf Club in Orchard Road.

Whilst Harbord Road is a busy thoroughfare, the site is well set back off a little spur that runs alongside Harbord Rd just north of West Street. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and more than enough room to house a fine looking food truck. There’s a fine looking bar up the back with twelve taps. The opening day line-up included what looks like Broken Bay’s six core beers (IPA, Aussie Lager, Pale, Pilsner, Pacific Ale and an XPA), a Batlow Seltzer and Cider, three lagers and an American Amber Ale. Middies, Schooner and Pints are available.

The livery and branding is simple and clean whether it is the tap head decals or the beer cans or the art work on the walls. There’s plenty of fans inside to take the edge off the heat. Broken Bay Brewing CO’s Insta account gives plenty of insights into the journey these guys have been on to get to opening and their aims to brewing. I like this quote “We’ll be launching six core brews – all deliciously unique flavours, without punching you in the gut” I could drink the Helles all day, and the IPA is restrained but still a really flavoursome sipper.

I don’t think we can have enough breweries in Brookvale. I’m looking forward to a repeat visit and sampling the wares from Miss Mabel’s menu. Congratulations on the opening – it is a great space and see you again soon.
