Adelaide is very famously known for its grid where the CBD is contained by four terraces which in turn are surrounded by parkland. Inside the four terraces are at least four breweries and countless classic pubs. So plenty of options for post conference libations.

I’ve visited Lady Burra Brewhouse on a number of occasions and it always does to job. In times of gloom for craft beer, it is terrific to see Lady Burra surviving and indeed thriving if its expansion plans are anything to go by. Lady Burra has plenty of taps and a really good kitchen. I absolutely love their chilli bowl. All bases are covered beer wise and their Double IPA is a standout.

Mismatch Brewing have taken over the Whitmore Hotel site from Sparkke Brewing. Whilst most of their beers continue to be made at the Hay Valley brewery, the Adelaide CBD venue serves up a variety of experimental beers in an old school pub. Keen to get to the rooftop.

I really wish I’d done my research better before visiting Silver Brewing Co. A sprawling place, I think the star of this show would be the food. Unfortunately, I visited at the wrong time of day and wasn’t able to pin the ears back and rip into Serbian meat heaven. A couple of beers are brewed there, but they are more serious about their distilling. Still, their Bohemian lager was perfectly potable. Definitely a venue to revisit with mates and on an empty stomach.

My favourite of the Adelaide CBD breweries was the last that I visited. Crafty Robot Brewing is in a great site on Grote Street. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. All beers are brewed onsite. I was disappointed that I couldn’t participate in the trivia night. 10 taps on offer and the West Coast IPA was an absolute ripper.

For @Untappd unique hunters, many pubs inside the Terraces are embracing craft beer and a couple like the Elephant and Castle and the outstanding Grace Emily have house beers. I’ve only seen Aged Coopers Stout and Sparkling on tap at the Coopers Alehouse in the old Earl of Aberdeen pub. The Crown & Sceptre and the Franklin Hotel do a great feed and have variety on their taps.

There’s plenty outside the Terraces as well. Adelaide is a great beer town, but if you are doing the Conference thing and you’ve got the time a stroll in between sessions – you’ll be rewarded aplenty.

One last thing. This is how to order a beer in Adelaide (above). I really don’t know why they don’t fall in line with the rest of the country. When I’m on a public crawl I drink middies. If I got a buck for every time I was asked “Mate, you know that’s not a big beer” when I asked for a Schooner – every 6th beer would be free.
