White Shield India Pale Ale – simply great

It is a rare occasion when beer label hyperbole delivers on its promises. One beer that overcomes the expectations set by its and label and website is White Shield India Pale Ale.

Beautiful honey colour, long lingering head and a constant fine bead of bubbles. Most importantly, it is an Indian Pale Ale that doesn’t slap you across the face like that Fisherman’s Friend ad starring Gyton Grantley from Underbelly. It is definitively an India Pale Ale – nicely hoppy and long lasting on the palate. There’s a comprehensive set of instructions about how to pour this little ripper and drink it. I must admit I was half way through it by the time I saw that it should be drunk at 11 – 13 degrees. Maybe this is a beer that Mr Liquor at Circular Quay should sell, given their propensity for warm beer.

White Shield India Pale Ale is brewed by William Worthington is a historic brewer from Burton-on-Trent (Punchy or Charlie will tell us where that is). It has been long M&Aed by other large breweries, but it has moved back to its original location and has started to win all sorts of awards at Real Ale beer awards.

Worth the spend.
