Yesterday, was an overcast, grey and cold day – down at Tesco’s with mum doing some shopping … had a look at the beers and ciders … came up with this one, a medium dry Thatchers Somerset cider made with Katy’s apples?
Easy drinking, probably too easy drinking as at 7.4% and at just under 2 quid for a 500ml bottle, there is a bit of rocket fuel in there. A fairly clear cider, a bit of fizz, not my usual penchant for cloudy cider or as sweet as a Pheasant Plucker but certainly dry and potent…. the brewery is only a few miles down the road, will pay them a visit before I stray back to Oz.
A few bars have been frequented in the last few days and I have been maintaining the BOTF ideal of reviewing a few different beers. So last night met my brother on his way home from work, at the Princes Motto, Barrow Gurney and sampled a couple of Wadworth 6X’s. This one I have known for many years, would not be top of my list – but I am far from unhappy drinking. It is English bitter, reddish in colour (warm and flat for some) and you might mistakenly initially think it is a bit weak. Wadworths is from just outside Devices, another West Country local.
The Princes Motto is a very snug pub, on a fairly busy road, it has agood selection of real ales (Wadworths and Butcombe), ciders and lagers. This is a Wadworth sponsored pub, worth a visit, enjoy the cask ales and the one or two locals for a bit of banter. It would not be on my list for a pub crawl, but a regular to have a beer with the bro after work.
