Theakston Old Peculier (the legend)

A busy day ……. a drive up to the border of Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire again on a foray after trout, this time to the world renown … Lechlade trout fishery.

Arrived at 10.30am with mum in tow … spied my 1st trout as we initially walked round the lake ……. not to big about 5.5lb …. 2/3 hours later we had 4 fish to take home (best about 7.5lb)

Home early evening for the next beer review …. Theakston Old Peculier. This one is definitely at top of the list of porter/stouts. Last time I sampled this beer was during my time as student in York. A very smooth (highlight smooth) beer, but would not drink more than 1 or 2. This beer is a legend in the North of England where it will be found on tap in many pubs. Dark, smooth and heavy ….  a smoother version of the Jimmy Squires porter.

The beer label proclaims itself as the legend (no big argument … it’s not worth it anyway with Yorkies eg.Punchy). It also declares that it is the sponsor of the crime writing festival at Harrowgate …. ?

Cheap at £1.95 for 500ml  stubby? another one off the shelf from the local co-op, can not really go wrong there. Also a fairly strong beer at 5.6%.

Definitely one to have again…

Like the hat ?
