BotF was enjoying a pleasant Father’s Day when he received the latest of call ups to enjoy a day at the Swans v Carlton with two other BotF veterans. Knowing that the traffic could be bad, a trio of beers were put into the bag to make the trip enjoyable. Of the three bevvies tried, one stood out. That said it was a hard fought race and the other two beers will receive their plaudits in a later blog.
Zywiec has offered a beer on these pages previously, which was favourably reviewed, but nothing compares to this drop. Upon opening Zywiec Porter, we were assaulted in a pleasant way with deep vegemite/chocolate aromas. Drinking it was even better. Bitter, long lasting taste with plenty of kick. Even though we only had a 330ml bottle – we were left a little bruised. This was a 9.5% drop and it is probably one of the best beers I’ve tried. You’ve got to love the warning about no drinking and driving on the bottle. Three of these and you’d be speaking like the sentence on the bottle.
Fortified by the 3 split beer journey, we braced ourselves for the Swanees. Swanees started strong with a four goal burst. BotF also started strongly with a two beer quarter. We kept that pace up, and whilst the Swans weren’t as consistent – but they hung on to the end. Bring on the Doggies and we’ll be looking forward to Will’s garage.
