Today’s beer porn comes from the banks of the Swan River. Beautiful day in the western capital and the Swan looks magnificent on days like today. In the background is the old Swan Brewery, which owned Emu Beers for a very long time prior to the ultimate takeover of Swan by Lion Nathan.
It begs the question why they persist with the Emu brand given there is no physical link to the Old Emu. The brewery, which remained separate after the Swan takeover for some time has been demolished and it’s presence is minimal. For example at the qantas club there is no Emu or Swan, but rather the more ubiquitous Little Creatures.
Emu Bitter has a reputation for being really bitter, but it is not really anything out of the box compared to IPAs or a distinctively strong beer like Little Creatures Pale Ale. Still at least for a mainstreamer it tries.
