The BotF Bar Review map has fallen a little behind, due to the fact that the BotF reviewers have actually been working quite hard for a change. There’s still been plenty of visits to bars, but just no blogging about them. The April and May bar of the month awards have yet to be written, but that’ll probably done in the next fortnight. There’s also a big decision to make about whether to extend the bar map to include the globe or to create a series of maps for different regions.
A new bar has been discovered pretty close to the original path between 275 Kent Street and Wharf 3 at Circular Quay. The Bar is a cosy bar perfectly suited to winter drinking. With plenty of wood panelling, very expensively upholstered chairs and oil paintings of dogs hanging over fireplaces – it has the feel of a study in an English castle.
It has a reasonably comprehensive beer list, but nothing that BotF hasn’t tried before. What is stunning is the prices. “Domestic” beers – $7. “Premium” beers (Aussie only) – $8 (including jokingly Pure Blonde) and imports are $9.50 a throw. BotF got nailed at the Capital Grill for $17 for two Peronis – but the same order would be $19 at The Bar. Nice bar snack menu – but again expensive. I’d definitely drink here again – but I’d want to be on a corporate card.
