Sunday arvo footy and KB

A step back in time today, as BotF reacquainted itself with a can of cold gold KB, whilst watching Canterbury-Bankstown touch up Eastern Suburbs. KB, which stands for Kent Brewery, is one of the last remnants of the Tooth & Co Brewing company. Tooth has disappeared as a name and is now owned by Carlton and United. You can still find Kent Brown Old on tap in the occasional bar, but I’m pretty sure you can only get KB in cans nowadays (though I stand to be corrected.

In its day, KB was a major, major beer. Great ads (Shake hands with a cold gold KB), great cans (the steel can with the ripple effect to make it look cold and the stubbie shaped like a grenade. Mention KB today and most people just snigger. “Kid’s Beer”. I must admit I approached it with some trepidation, but whilst not mind-blowing by any means, it wasn’t undrinkable. It struck me as quite watery and overly gassy, but it wasn’t gag inducing as I though it might be. I don’t think I’ll be buy a slab anytime soon – but on a hot day, a cold gold would be fine.
