Zubr Gold – Big Bottles

Another BotF correspondent has been bemoaning the ever increasing trend of 330ml and 345ml bottles in the Australian Market. Maybe he should move to the Czech Republic. This Czech brew is one of 6 varieties, that Zubr produces and the minimum sized vessel sold is a 440ml can. One variety of Zubr comes in a 1.5l plastic bottle. Their website contains an amusing legend about the origins of Zubr beer and how it conquered the “Daemons of Drought”. http://www.zubr.cz/en

This particular variety – Zubr Gold – is described as light. Now at 4.6% alcohol it is certainly much heavier than Orstrayan Golds – but maybe it refers to the colour rather than alcohol – or the Czechs just drink very strong stuff. Zubr gold was pretty light in taste compared to other Czech fare – Urquel, Budvieser etc. Still not as bland as Dry Dock – and full marks for the 500ml bottle.

You’d also think that Zubr would be at the bottom of an alphabetical list of beers but a Polish drop – Zyweic – will be pretty hard to beat on that score.
