BotF Darts kicks off for 2010

2010 darts kicks off on Feb 6 with the annual presentation night at Time and Tide at 7pm followed by the first match of the Warringah Shield on Feb 10.

The presentation is always a big night. As well as the major awards for the 2009 Warringah Shield and the Warringah Cup there are other awards such as highest peg, most singles wins and anyone who was lucky enough to snag a 180 in 2009 can expect a trophy. In 2008, Colin Chilvers had the highest peg with a sensational 160 finish. Maybe Norm’s 3 centre bulls 150 peg will be enough to win this time …its certainly a more difficult peg.

The presentation night is also a big night for last minute poaching as ambitious captains try to assemble a winning 6. There’s always a few teams looking for extra players so anyone wanting to participate in the greatest of sports should come along. If you can count backwards from 501 you’re in.

The winning Fishos 2 team has now been promoted to Fishos 1 and will field essentially the same 6 as last season. There was plenty of off season discussion about securing a more lucrative sponsorship deal than offered by The Fish. The final bidding came down to a tussle between North Manly Bowlo & The Fish. Home teams are obliged to put on a bit of a feed for visiting teams. All that beer with nothing to eat wouldn’t be healthy so a few plates of spring rolls, party pies and chips need to be forthcoming between the doubles & singles matches. Neither The Fish nor North Manly Bowlo sponsorship offers extended to food …but decisively, The Fish does have a staffed kitchen. North Manly just provides microwaves and we would have had to bring our own party pies and none of the team is that good a cook. Also The Fish provides felt tipped markers for chalking at no cost to the team, though it must be said these often run dry so the value of this offer was questioned heavily in the off-season discussion.

Anyway, BoTF boys are all set for another great season with The Fish, this time as #1 Fishos team.
