Buddha’s 5th Precept – Lucky Beer

Lucky BeerThe boys from Baron’s Brewing seem to have flown in the face of Buddhism’s 5th Precept which states “I undertake to observe the precept to abstain from intoxicating drinks and drugs causing heedlessness”. The Buddha-shaped bottle and the website exclamation “Share the good fortune” maybe represent a more modern interpretation of the 5th Precept. That is, “wallow in the heedlessness”. This beer will certainly enable you to achieve this if taken in volume but it’s taste has nothing that sets it apart. I expected more from Barons given the product they brew locally. Lucky Beer, with it’s ‘Heineken-like’ aftertaste simply left me wondering what water source was utilised by the Chinese brewers of the stuff.
