On the eve of the opening of a new brewery in Brookvale, I took the opportunity to visit the new premises of a Brookvale stalwart. Dad & Dave’s have set up shop on Mitchell Road, and they’ve done a great job. Dad & Dave’s never really went away – but my perception is that council never made it easy for them at their old Chard Rd set-up.
All the boxes have been ticked. Bar, taps, tables, takeaway, place for food truck, distillery and they even throw in a friendly brewer to chat to from time to time. Dave seems pretty happy with the way things are going. We lamented the demise of one my personal favourites – Dave’s Gold.
We also celebrated his latest brew, a Single Malt and Single Hop Double IPA – Dad & Dave’s SMaSH. Using the Nelson Sauvin Hop, Dave has created an unctuous sipper that should be an instant classic. I love having this sort of beer on tap – but there are cans available for takeaway. Dave reckons he’ll be knocking a few more SMaSHs over the next little while – so all the more reason to drop by the brewery.
