Winghaus – some sport before the ferry

A big venue that would have made a bigger splash had it not opened seemingly a day before the COVID 19 shut down. Winghaus is a new brand of the Rockpool Group. Its full name is Winghaus by Bavarian and it is all about Wings, Beer, Burgers and Sports. I reckon this’ll be the first of many – and can be found in the Gateway Building opposite Circular Quay.

There are a tonne of screens. US Sport is definitely becoming a bigger thing in Sydney. Plenty of venues are offering drinks specials during US Football games. Winghaus is Rockpool/Bavarian’s take on US chains like Buffalo Wild Wings that marry sports and wings. According to Mashed, Americans ate 4 wings for each man, woman and child during the 2019 super bowl.

The wings come with a broad range of heat – ending up with the five flame rated face melting heat. The other star of the show are the 40 taps. 4 Pines have hooked up with the Bavarian to great effect and along with Pirate Life they dominate the tap list. A couple of Bavarian favourites like Spaten and Lowenbrau also feature. For unique hunters, it is pretty slim pickings – but Pirate Life are continuing to punch out new beers, so try your luck.

Last visit, it was pumping as Sydney gets stuck in to the Christmas season. Sports and wings are hard to pass up.
